Madikwe boasts the 'super seven', which consists of the 'Big Five' plus cheetah and wild dog. The latter are a speciality of the area. Known as 'painted dogs' due to their tricoloured faces, these rare creatures are a delight to watch. The reserve consists of vast swathes of open grassland dotted with rocky hills, which offer ideal opportunities for viewing the large herds of plains game. Madikwe is now one of South Africa's prime safari destinations - and one of its best kept secrets!
